About Us - a brief history

The Northern Neck Rage Fastpitch Softball organization is based in the birthplace of George Washington, Robert E. Lee and James Monroe --- the Northern Neck, the northern most peninsula in the state of Virginia. The 2015 - 2016 season is the 16th year of Northern Neck Rage Fastpitch Softball.

In January 2001 at Lancaster High School, Gary Gilbert and Reggie Brann pulled together a group of country girls who wanted to elevate their game to a higher level of play.  Later that year in their first 16 and under tournament, the goal was simple --- not to embarrass themselves.  They didn't.  A successful foundation was laid.

Reggie approached his close friends, Thomas and Terrie Suthard in the fall of 2001 to consider forming a 14 and under team.  The squad opened play on a cold spring day in Colonial Heights, Virginia in 2002.

In July 2002, the Rage and Eddie Berry got together to form a 12 and under team.  Their first tournament play was at our own "OutRAGEous End Of Summer Blowout" held at Dream Fields in Kilmarnock in August 2002.  The tournament moved to Tappahannock in 2003 and continued annually in the area thru 2007.

Reggie came out of retirement to manage again in August 2005 and with his daughter, Kathryn Brann, Chip McCarthy, and Glenn Marks formed a new 12U team.  Most of those players are now  college students.  Reggie and Rob Pierce, a former President of another travel ball organizaton, now coach the Rage 14U team.

After Eddie's youngest daughter, Lacey, aged out, he agreed to coach a new 12U team in August 2009.  Eddie continued as a Rage manager thru July 2011 when his team won the 14U Softball Nation nationals in Virginia Beach.

Many grandchildren and an 18U national championship did not bring to a conclusion coaching Rage fastpitch for Terrie and Thomas as they came back to the softball field in March 2011 coaching 12U and continued thru the summer of 2014 with our 16U squad.

The Rage continues to be most richly blessed with many wonderful players, coaches, and parents since 2001.  The competitive softball that our young ladies play takes the game to a higher level, with the girls gathering many high school honors and a number of our players moving on to play college ball.

Our community-based organization continues to be dedicated to providing a positive learning environment to help girls in the development of their character and life skills through the sport of fastpitch softball.  The Northern Neck Rage has an objective to implant firmly the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, and respect for authority in the journey toward becoming better adjusted, stronger, and happier individuals.

The Northern Neck Rage is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization.
